Kentucky fights back against transvaginal mesh

By now, almost anyone who has had any exposure to transvaginal mesh knows how dangerous this product is. For the women who have had this procedure done, the long-term results have been nothing short of disastrous. Since the companies making this product are powerful corporations, many victims feel powerless to take action.

Fortunately, the state of Kentucky seems to be taking action. Recently, Kentucky attorney general Andy Beshear filed a lawsuit against Johnson & Johnson, one of the most prominent manufacturers of transvaginal mesh, according to a recent news report from CNN.

According to the news report, the lawsuit charges Johnson & Johnson with misrepresenting the dangers of transvaginal mesh to doctors and patients. Attorney General Beshaer is filing the lawsuit on behalf of the more than 15,000 Kentucky women who have had transvaginal mesh implants without being properly made aware of the inherent risks involved, and these risks are significant. Over time, the mesh fuses with the skin, causing tremendous discomfort, disease, and the need for invasive surgical remedies, along with ongoing medical complications that could last a lifetime.

Kentucky is the third state to bring a lawsuit of this kind involving transvaginal mesh. California and Washington have done the same. Just this year, the FDA re-classified transvaginal mesh from being cleared as a “moderate risk” to being “high-risk.” Hopefully, this lawsuit will help put an end to transvaginal mesh and other dangerous medical products of this kind.
